Talking about Atomic Habits

Talking about Atomic Habits

I just read a really great book. It's all about habits. I was pretty overwhelmed by it at first..after my sister in law gave it to me it hung out on the floor by my bed for a few months before I actually picked it up. 😲

But I'm really glad I finally dove into it. It's called Atomic Habits by James Clear.

He talks about tiny changes making remarkable results. I would HIGHLY recommend it!

But I thought, you're super busy with all the "things" in your life and sitting down to read a book (a non-fiction book especially) might not be top on your list.

So let me give you a little snippet. And maybe in a few weeks I can give you another. Let me know if you'd like that πŸ‘

1. NEVER MISS A HABIT TWICE

No matter how hard we try to set a new habit and then stay consistent, it is inevitable that somehow life will interrupt us at some point. (Um, me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY....you too??? 🀣)

Once I miss a day I think all is lost and I throw my hands up and give up. But Mr. Clear says "No problem!" Life happens.

The problem is when we miss the 2nd day!

"Missing once is an accident. Missing twice is the start of a new habit."

2. NEVER PUT UP A ZERO

Ok, so what if that second day I REALLY DON'T WANT TO (fill in the blank...for me it's get up early to get stuff done before the house wakes up 😴)

He says to do it anyway even if it isn't 100%. Just don't put up a ZERO.

For example, if it's working out James says simply doing one push up is enough to signal to your body that today is a workout day.

Baby steps. Small increments. Being compassionate. That's what creates strong, lasting habits.

3. IT'S ABOUT YOUR IDENTITY

It's much less about what or how you show up and more about showing up because this habit you are building aligns with who you want to BECOME.

If we can tweak how we look at the new habits we want to create...maybe we have more hope for EVENTUAL success!Β

I really LOVED this book because it aligned with all that I have been saying in this space.

IT ISN'T ABOUT PERFECTION, IT'S ABOUT PROGRESS AND COMPASSION

And because I can...and I will, I'm going to tie it all back into jewelry πŸ˜‚

Jewelry can be a great reminder...of beauty, love, determination, purpose. Whatever the reason you're wearing your ring, necklace, bracelet etc. today, does it fill some purpose? Inspiration, motivation, beauty, comfort, convenience, management? And so many more possibilities and uses for jewelry in our lives! Isn't that wonderful?!

Thanks for reading and sharing your valuable time with me! Let's go out there and conquer our fears and doubts about what we can accomplish. Let's go out there and make a difference and make those changes we need in small, powerful increments. Are you with me? I promise, I'm with you ❀❀❀

xoxo,

Betsy

P.S. I'll see you next week!
